Captain Hollow

In the amorphous obscurity of the night, where dreams and nightmares intertwine in a sinister ballet, a figure crafted from the darkest yarns of the human spirit persists—Captain Hollow. Born from whimsy and shadows cast by fragments of a shattered mirror, he is a chilling union of capricious youth and malevolent maturity, an entity not of flesh and bone, but of raw fear and the nebulous whispers of dreams. His form, ever-changing, reflects the unpredictable and unfathomable nature of the darkness from which he was spun.

His one constant, the fearsome hook that replaces a hand, is more than just a tool of violence. It is a grotesque parody of the pirate's weapon,  a symbol of the otherworldly terror that is Captain Hollow.

Deep in the heart of the world lies his dominion—a labyrinth of narrow, winding tunnels, a place where time crumbles into oblivion. This subterranean kingdom is lit only by Lucifer matches strewn seemingly at random throughout the narrow pallways, casting their spectral pallor upon the rock-strewn passages, their soft luminescence a parody of the stars above.

Among these shadowy tunnels dwells Tigris, a spirited Arabic girl of thirteen winters. Tigris is a beacon in the unending darkness, a rare flame flickering defiantly amidst the encroaching shadows. Her rule over the other lost children is not benign; it is won through guile and threats, her charisma concealing a ruthless heart. But behind her bullying lies a greater purpose—a desperate hope to survive, and maybe, just maybe, escape this shadowy purgatory.

"Keep your wits about you," she warns the others, her gaze unblinking, unafraid. "This isn't a game. Not here, not with him."

'He' is the whisper in the darkness, the chill against their skin, the unseen terror that haunts their every waking moment—Captain Hollow. His form is mutable, shifting from a towering figure, dark as pitch, to a fleeting wisp of shadow. The ever-present hook's darkness goes beyond that of a shadow, swallowing all light and devouring hope.

The children, victims of Hollow's cruel jest of sinister, band together for survival. Their skirmishes with the Pale Ones—goblin-like creatures with twisted faces— and with each other are desperate dances of survival, not unlike the war games they once played in the world above.

However, an undercurrent of dread runs through their ranks. Once a child's body betrays them, surrendering to the inevitable call of maturity, they vanish without a trace. Tigris shudders at the thought, the uncertainty worse than any known terror. Are they returned to their world, or do they fall victim to a fate far grimmer?

In this maddening realm, Captain Hollow embodies the terrible beauty of contrasts—the innocence and the villainy, the dream and the nightmare. He is a living paradox, a boogeyman turned real in the theater of fears.

And so, the hushed whispers of children echo in the night, speaking the name of Captain Hollow. Their voices tremble with fear, laden with tales of a realm of tunnels, malicious Pale Ones, and the touch of a spectral hook. And somewhere in the echoing silence, the gleeful, childlike laughter of a shadow being reverberates—a promise of the consuming darkness and the perpetual nightmare of this netherland.
