Additional Non-Player Characters

Guard Arnold “Arnie” Fletcher: A towering, burly man with a perpetually furrowed brow and hands the size of hams, Arnie is more a force of nature than a guard. Despite his intimidating appearance, he's known for his surprisingly gentle demeanor and a fondness for whittling small animal figurines in his spare time. While not easy to fool, he might be persuaded to turn a blind eye to certain minor rule-breaking if he believes it to be harmless.

Guard Helena Pike: Of average height and slender build, Helena is marked by her icy blonde hair and piercing blue eyes. She is quiet, often choosing to stand in the shadows and observe, rather than engage. Helena is quite intelligent and well-read, often sneaking books from the library to read during her breaks. She's generally reserved but may be inclined to listen to those who share her love for literature.

Guard Matilda “Tilly” Norton: A petite woman with a perpetually cheerful demeanor, Tilly is surprisingly strong for her size. She is compassionate and treats the inmates with a kindness that often stands in stark contrast to the grim reality of the asylum. However, her compassion does not make her naive, and she is quite capable of handling any situation that arises. Tilly might respond to genuine displays of remorse or efforts at self-improvement.

Nurse Agnes Goodwin: A soft-spoken woman with an easy smile, Nurse Agnes has a motherly demeanor that endears her to many patients. She has a knack for soothing frazzled nerves and can often be found reading to the more troubled inmates. She might be moved by pleas for help, especially if she believes a patient's well-being is at stake.

Dr. Assistant James Thorne: A man of science to his core, James is fascinated by the human mind and its disorders. He can sometimes be so caught up in his studies that he overlooks the human element of his work. However, he respects intelligence and may listen to well-reasoned arguments or displays of knowledge.

Nurse Constance "Connie" Shaw: Cheerful and full of energy, Nurse Connie is always bustling about, brightening the otherwise dreary surroundings. She's compassionate and friendly but can be a bit gullible at times. Patients who can tap into her optimistic nature may find an ally.

Orderly Richard "Dickie"
Green: A stocky man with a quick laugh, Dickie is responsible for physically challenging tasks around the asylum. Despite his rough and tumble demeanor, he has a soft spot for the underdog and is susceptible to a well-spun sob story.

Patient Matilda "Maddie" Green: A former seamstress, Maddie's hands never seem to stop moving, always fidgeting, picking, tearing at the fabric of her dress. She's quiet and withdrawn, often overlooked by staff and patients alike. However, her nimble fingers and keen eyes might prove useful for tasks requiring finesse and attention to detail.

Algernon "Algie" Phipps: A scholarly type, Algie was committed to the asylum after his obsession with ancient texts and forbidden knowledge led to a breakdown. He can often be found in the library, poring over books. His wealth of knowledge and keen intellect could be a valuable asset to anyone able to earn his trust.

Elizabeth "Lizzy" Hale: Lizzy was a child prodigy on the violin, but the pressure to perform led her to a mental breakdown. She is still entranced by music and responds positively to it. Her ability to create a distraction with her violin playing could be harnessed for the escape plan.

Benjamin "Benny" O'Shea: Benny is a former sailor who claims to have seen sea monsters and other nautical nightmares. His tall tales, rough manners, and uncouth language often land him in solitary confinement. Despite his brash demeanor, he has a code of honor and might help anyone he deems a true friend.

Dr. Amelia Harrow: A woman of remarkable intellect and scientific rigor, Dr. Harrow is a firm believer in the asylum's methods. She views mental illness as a complex puzzle to be solved, and believes that the current treatments, however harsh, are the key to unlocking that puzzle. Her devotion to her work blinds her to the suffering of her patients and makes her a formidable adversary.

Dr. Julian Whitman: Known for his bombastic speeches about the transformative power of the treatments used at the asylum, Dr. Whitman is a charismatic figure who genuinely believes in their effectiveness. His natural charm and persuasive rhetoric make him a dangerous adversary, as he is capable of convincing others of the righteousness of his cause.

Dr. Lawrence "Larry" Thatcher: Dr. Thatcher has been at the asylum long enough to have seen treatments come and go, and has become largely apathetic towards the work. He's meticulous in carrying out his duties, but lacks any real passion or enthusiasm. His indifference could be a potential weakness to exploit, as he's less likely to be vigilant or proactive.
